We present the program that has been planned to celebrate of the European Mobility Week in Segovia
“A Street is your best choice”, motto and objective for the European Mobility Week.
Two exhibitions and the installation of a tent in the Azoguejo are some the news that are presented for the European Mobility Week in Segovia.
An extensive program of activities will be concentrated on the week of 16 and 22 of September.
The implication of the Citizen Participation, Sports, Tourism, Environment, Education, Youth, Employment and Social Services, under the coordination of Traffic and Transportation has been made possible the elaboration of an extensive program of activities and that also has participated ONCE, The Provincial Association of Driving Schools, Association of Physicians, Nurses and Bicicla.
The normal workshops of driver education and sustainable mobility are directed directly to the students, and aim to the use and responsible way of bicycle use. Not missing the bike ride for the whole family, like the one on September 21 at 12:00 between the Traffic Playground and Calle San Francisco, an easy ride especially thought of for the children.
Those who want to walk may join a guided routes thru the most beautiful environment of the city, from the night walk on 19th, ¨Route of Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolves¨, or the walk to the ¨Walking to the Main Square¨, the 20th of September that starts in each neighborhood and concentrates in the Azoguejo and from there will continue all together to the Main Square where they will distribute sandwiches to all the participants.
Also, the Mobility Week will offer the possibility to learn to skate or to visit the city from the Touristic Bus.
The children will again be local police in the Walk of symbolic child fines. The students will watch to see that all the traffic rules are being obeyed and ticketing all the people that break the laws. They will meet Friday, September 19 at 17:00 in the Traffic playground and from there they will walk the streets together. Aimed especially to the young children, the City Hall will install a Tent in the Azoguejo from the 16 – 18 of September, in that it will hold activities related to the mobility.
The 22nd of September, No Car Day, it is scheduled that the traffic to the historical center will be closed.
This year there will be special focus in the Technical Conferences in that they will address different topics. The 16th of September, in the CAAV in Avenida Fernández Ladreda, the chosen topic will be ¨Walking is Healthy. Participants will be, Juan Javier Manzanares (Association of Physicians), Carmen Santiago (Association of Nurses) and Pediatrician, José García Velazquez; the 17th of September the speakers will be David Alba Professor of UAM Madrid and Xavier Pont from the Urban Ecology Agency of Barcelona; the 18th of September, also in the CAAV, will assist the Provincial Chief of Traffic, Pedro Pastor, the Head of Environmental Education from the City Hall of Madrid, Marisol Mena and Antonio Tomás (Rehabilitation Technician from the ONCE). The 22nd of September the event will be moved to the Convent of Santa Cruz where, at 12:00, where David Goodman (Director and Professor of Architecture from the IE University) will share his presentation entirely in English. This same say, at 17:00, en the FES there will be a talk about how the bus is a sustainable solution to the mobility with Rafael Barbadillo (ASINTRA) as speaker, Antonio Bermejo (Grupo Avanza) and the Service Inspector of the City Hall of Segovia, David Álvaro in the round table.
Expositions and contests
The programs incudes two expositions; In the Alhóndiga you can view the photograph exposition ¨Our streets from the 20th Century¨ which brings together a retrospective of the visible change of the streets of Segovia. The can see the exposition the 15th – 21st of September.
The second proposal is the Exposition – Bicycle Exhibition that will be held in the Patio of the Casa Consistorial the 16th – 22nd of September.
The Segovians over 50 years old can participate, from 16th – 22nd of September, in the History Contest, “My childhood in the streets of my city”, and those over 18 years old in the Video Contest: “Segovia is mobile”, from the 22nd of September to the 3rd of October.
Work for a sustainable mobility, to achieve that the cities are more for the people and less for vehicles, this is one objective which has an increasing number of followers. In this moment, there are 429 City Halls that have been added to the European Week of Mobility and more than 50 businesses and organizations of the civil society. In total close to 23 million people.
